The history of the paranormal sub genre offers the side of both factual and fiction; most of the factual films based on true stories are paranormal which makes it a very interesting and tense ordeal to watch. The reason for selecting paranormal is because usually paranormal films are always rated as some of the best rated films- this means that a paranormal film would be very good for the market as they are popular and lots of people watch them.
The Exorcist (1973) is one of the best ever rated horror film in history. This is an indicator that paranormals are the things that people like to watch- the exorcist is rated 8/10 on the IMDb- as you can see below, the only other film that has a higher rating than the exorcist is Throne Of Blood.
The films have evolved after time with mainly the FX. The FX have become a lot more advanced in the last 10 years by making it a more thrilling experience and making it look amazing in the actual film.
We learned that we could use a lot of different things that can make it look like a paranormal and successful and make it look like a fully functional film that could be released professionally.
This links to our sub-genre because ours is paranormal and therefore by looking at examples we can use their ideas and improve on them to put it into our final project and this is good because it will also influence our techniques and ideas to use for the final project.
